What is Mental Wellness?

Mental wellness is more than surviving; it’s thriving! It’s enjoying life, having a sense of purpose, and being able to manage life’s highs and lows. It’s a spectrum from improved stress management to a flourishing life despite some symptoms.

Mental wellness is not just the absence of mental illness. People who have long-term mental health challenges can learn the skills necessary to enjoy mental wellness.

Mental Wellness Peer Support

Magda is a passionate advocate of both informal and formal peer support for mental wellness. Formal peer support training equips those with lived experience of a mental health struggle and recovery with specific tools and skills to come alongside peers.

Peer supporters:

  • Help peers to deal with the impact of struggle,

  • Help peers to develop achievable, realistic goals to work towards, and

  • Offer encouragement and accountability.

Peers “get it”. We’ve been there, done that, “got the t-shirt”, so to speak! And we’ve learned the blessing that comes with giving support…

He who waters will also be watered himself."
(Proverbs 11:25b)

1. Jesus Christ is the foundation

Ultimately, our healing comes from God. He has given us the Holy Spirit and His Word to guide and strengthen us.

1 Corinthians 3:11
"For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ."

2. Whole-health approach

Mental health is always impacted by several factors. Magda’s approach focuses on various biological, psychological, and social strategies to develop a lifestyle that supports wellness and recovery.

Magda believes medication and other support, such as counselling and psychotherapy, are sometimes necessary, and essential in times of crisis. The support an individual chooses is a personal decision.

3. Empowerment for individuals & churches

You’re the CEO of your own health; everyone else is a consultant. Every individual can influence their own outcome. Magda focuses on what you can do, not what you can’t.

Your church can minister to the health needs of your congregation. Magda’s resources equip your church's  members to minister to each other effectively and become stronger together.

4. Dignity & respect

Everyone is unique and all are created in God’s image. No two paths to recovery will look identical, and that’s okay. Every person has a purpose. God has equipped you with a powerful mind and spirit with which you can do wonders.

5. Peer support & discipleship

You are not alone. Magda’s discipleship model means we minister to others from the comfort we’ve received ourselves. We seek to address the gap often experienced in mental health services.*

*Note: The 2014 Alberta Gap Report on mental health found that 1 in 10 people experience a gap in mental health services, mainly in the areas of information and counselling.
